Softball Tigers give Thornton 599th win

The duo of Kaylyn Barnett and Kinley Lucas combined to go 5-7 at the plate with 7 RBI in Georgetown's 11-3 win over Webber International on Saturday. The win was not only the first of the season for the Tigers, but it gave Head Coach Thomas Thornton career win #599.

Webber scored a run in each of the 1st 2 innings for an early lead. The Tiger bats then came to life starting in the bottom of the 2nd. An RBI triple from Ainsley Herron scored Ella Forish to get GC on the board. Barnett followed with a groundout that scored Herron to level the game at 2 heading to the 3rd inning.

After a strong top of the inning from Elle Prewitt on the mound, Georgetown's bats picked up where they left off and then some. With the bases loaded, Ella Forish laced a 2-run single past 2nd base, scoring Alanna Pierce and Haylee Stansbury to put the Tigers ahead, 4-2. Later in the inning, Kaylyn Barnett drove home Forish and Destiny Wallace to push the lead to 6-2. Kinley Lucas then followed with a long double to right, scoring Barnett. Lucas would later score on a wild pitch to cap a 6-run 3rd inning for the Tigers.

In the bottom of the 5th and leading 8-3, Barnett doubled to deep center, scoring Ella Forish. Lucas followed with a single to left that scored Ainsley Herron and Kaylyn Barnett to give Georgetown the 11-3 run-rule win.

Elle Prewitt pitched all 5 innings, allowing 5 hits and 3 earned runs on 91 pitches.
