Softball drops series finale against FHU

After a strong showing with the bats in the first game of Sunday, Georgetown's offense went silent in the finale. The Tigers mustered just 1 hit en route to a 6-0 loss, giving Freed-Hardeman the weekend series win.

Freed-Hardeman brought lady luck to the game in the top of the 1st inning. Consecutive base hits that floated just over Tiger gloves put runners at the corners with 1 out. A seeing-eye single up the middle followed to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. The next FHU batter attempted a sacrifice and reached via a clean single but the late throw to first got away from Georgetown, thus allowing a 2nd run to score in the top of the 1st. Starting pitcher, Elle Prewitt, was able to wiggle out of more harm by getting the next 2 batters out and stranding runners at 2nd and 3rd.

While Georgetown's bats were quiet, Kaylyn Barnett and Ainsley Herron reached base in the bottom of the 1st via a HBP and walk. The Tigers could not muster a run though as Barnett was caught trying to steal 3rd 2 batters later. Alanna Pierce then lifted a fly ball to center that was fielded cleanly to end the threat and move the game to the 2nd.

Georgetown put the 1st 2 runners on in the 2nd via walks. Ella Forish then stepped in looking to move the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Her bunt attempt was popped up and caught. Kinley Lucas was unable to get back to 1st in time, resulting in a double play and wiping out another threat for runs. The Tigers drew 2 more walks in the bottom of the 3rd, but they were sandwiched between strikeouts, leaving GC blank on the scoreboard.

After struggling for 3 innings against Elle Prewitt, Freed-Hardeman was able to break through in the 5th to pad its lead, thanks to 3 Tiger errors in the inning. After a leadoff groundout, the Lions' next batter reached via an error at short. That runner would eventually score after a single to right that was misplayed to make it a 3-0 game. Another GC outfield error followed to give the Lions a 4-0 lead after 5. Georgetown got its only hit of the game on a bunt single by Ainsley Herron in the bottom of the inning. Herron was stranded at 1st.

Freed-Hardeman added 2 more runs in the top of the 6th, which brought Elle Prewitt's day in the circle to an end. Prewitt finished the day going 5.2 innings, allowing 6 runs but only 3 earned. She gave way to Elyssa Craig, who was able to wiggle out of a bases loaded jam to mitigate any further damage. Georgetown went down with 3 straight strikeouts in the 7th to end the game.

The Tigers are next scheduled for a home doubleheader against Midway on Tuesday starting at 3:00pm.
