Tigers shut out in Saturday finale
Georgetown's bats went silent in Saturday's finale as the Tigers fell to host William Carey, 8-0, in 5 innings.
The Tigers went 1-2-3 to start the game. William Carey attacked from the start by pushing out 4 hits and scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st off Tigers' starter, Emma Cummings. The inning could have been worse, but Cummings was able to induce a fly ball to strand runners at the corners and end the inning.
Addi Watson laced a single to right center for Georgetown in the top of the 2nd. She moved to 2nd base 2 batters later after a hit-by-pitch, but went no further as Haylee Stansbury was called out on strikes to end the threat. William Carey went quiet in the bottom of the 2nd as Cummings did not let a ball out of the infield, including a strikeout of the final batter of the inning.
Each team went down in order in the 3rd. Alanna Pierce tried to jumpstart the offense in the 4th. Pierce singled to left than stole 2nd to give Georgetown a runner in scoring position with only 1 out. 2 batters later, Michalee Clay worked a walk, but both were left on base as Aubry Hollins struck out to end the threat.
The bottom of the 4th proved disastrous for Georgetown. A walk and error put the first 2 William Carey batters on base. After a popup, a single loaded the bases. 2 runners then came home on a double to left. 2 more followed with another double to add 4 to the score and give the home team a 7-0 lead. The last double was the final batter for Emma Cummings as she gave way to Elle Prewitt in relief. Prewitt walked 3 of the first 4 batters faced, which brought another run home for an 8-run lead. She was able to retire the final batter on strikes to end the 4th with 5 runs on the board.
Georgetown needed at least 1 run to extend the game beyond the 5th inning. Haylee Stansbury led off with a single to left. The offense could muster nothing more as a fielder's choice and popup ended the inning and game. Emma Cummings took the loss after allowing 8 runs (7 earned) in 3.1 innings of work.
The Tigers are next scheduled for a road trip to Barbourville, KY on Tuesday to take on Union Commonwealth. The doubleheader is slated to start at 2:00pm.
