Tigers no-hit in series opener at Campbellsville
Georgetown traveled to Campbellsville on Friday to start a 3-game series over the weekend. The bats never got going as Georgetown did not record a hit in an 8-0 loss in 5 innings.
Campbellsville went for a 1st inning lead as the 2nd batter singled off Emma O'Daniel. Georgetown's defense then stepped up as O'Daniel induced a 6-4-3 double play to quickly negate the threat. There was no defense for 2 Campbellsville runs in the bottom of the 2nd. A leadoff single was followed by a long home run to center field to put CU on top. O'Daniel bounced back by retiring the next 3 batters to keep the deficit at 2 after 2.
Campbellsville led off the 3rd with a single, but Kady Dennis nailed the runner trying to steal 2nd. O'Daniel struck out the next batter and got a fly ball after to end the 3rd. The 4th proved the dagger for Georgetown. O'Daniel allowed back-to-back home runs to start and was pulled after walking the 3rd batter of the inning. Elle Prewitt was brought on and gave up a single to her first batter to put runners on 1st & 2nd. A sac bunt moved them up 60 feet. The runner on 3rd then scored on a passed ball for a 3-0 lead. 2 batters later, a single to right brought home another run. The next batter laced a triple and would score on an error to make the game, 8-0, in favor of Campbellsville.
Georgetown needed a run in the 5th to extend the game. A 2-out walk by Kady Dennis negated a perfect game for CU, but the 3rd out quickly followed to end the game with a Campbellsville no-hitter.
Emma O'Daniel fell to 1-3 on the year after allowing 5 runs on 6 hits, including 3 homers, in 3+ innings. Elle Prewitt gave up 2 runs on 3 hits in the 4th.
The teams will go again on Saturday in a doubleheader starting at 1:00pm.
