Tigers fourth quarter rally stalls against LWC

Through much of the first 20 minutes Tuesday the Georgetown College women's basketball game against Lindsey Wilson College was back and forth. There were five ties and six lead changes. The final of each came with 3:12 remaining in the first half.

Madison Darnell scored a layup for a 30-30 game. The Blue Raiders (6-6, 3-3) went on a 16-0 run to close the half. They held off the Tigers (9-3, 4-2) late rally for an 80-66 win.

Trailing by 16 after three quarters, GC cranked up the defense and were on a 10-0 run when a foul in the backcourt led to LWC's first points in the final 10 minutes with 4:55 showing. The visitors made both, they were near perfect from the line 34-of-37.

Georgetown continued to battle though and with 1:10 remaining it was a four-point game. Lindsey Wilson broke the press quickly, finding Maleigha Oldham on the leak out. Grace White tracked her down, both going full force. Oldham went up with the shot. White went for the ball and made a hard foul in the process leading to an intentional foul. Four straight free throws made it an eight-point game and it never got closer.

It was a rough night from the foul line and beyond the three-point line. GC went 17-of-32 from the line and made just three deep shots.

Callie Jackson was a lift off the bench, scoring a season-high 15 points. Izzy Lamparty had 13, while White had seven points and 13 rebounds.

The Tigers finish the first semester with a tournament in Puerto Rico. They play Friday against Interamericana and Saturday against University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez.
