45 Bench Points send Tigers past Cumberland

Georgetown used a total team effort, getting 45 points off the bench en route to a critical MSC road win, 83-62 over Cumberland.

Georgetown (8-5, 5-3) was led in the first quarter by 11 from Izzy Lamparty and 8 rebounds from Madison Darnell, as the Tigers took advantage of 8 offensive rebounds in the first 10 minutes to make up for a cool shooting start. GC led 21-16 after 1. The Tigers continued to slowly build a lead in the 2nd. Despite only having 3 players score in the quarter, Georgetown still put 20 more points on the board, thanks to 7 from Madison Darnell and AJ Stevenson and 6 from Callie Jackson. Cumberland held tight but Georgetown took a 41-32 lead to half, thanks to a 12-0 advantage on 2nd chance points.

Cumberland (8-4, 5-3) chipped away the deficit in the 3rd as 5 Georgetown turnovers aided the Phoenix rally. Cumberland would get as close as 52-49 late in the 3rd before a last second bucket from the Tigers' Lisa Suljemani pushed the lead to 5 heading to the 4th. In the final quarter, Georgetown sent a message early that this win was going to the orange & black. An 8-2 spurt in the 1st 2 minutes gave Georgetown a lead of 63-51. Cumberland would never get closer than 10 points the rest of the way. Georgetown shot 58% in the quarter and made 13 of 15 free throws, tallying 29 points in total and never giving the Phoenix the hope of a rally. 23 of the 29 came from the Tigers bench for an 83-62 final.

Madison Darnell dominated on both ends, finishing with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Izzy Lamparty finished with 15 points. The bench took over from there. AJ Stevenson added 18 points, while Lisa Suljemani came with 12 of her own. Callie Jackson went 9-10 at the foul line and ended the night with 11 points. Bench scoring on the night was 45-19 in favor of the Tigers.
