Toller's 30 points not enough against FHU

Erin Toller got off to a torrid start on Thursday night against Freed-Hardeman. The freshman hit 4-5 3-pointers in the 1st quarter en route to 30 points on the night. The effort would not be enough, though, as Toller was the only Tiger to score more than 8 points in a 67-65 loss to Freed-Hardeman.

Georgetown (13-9, 9-7) came into the game tied with Freed-Hardeman (16-6, 10-6) for 5th place in the league, with a chance to tie for 4th with a Cumberlands loss. The Tigers were unable to build a significant lead at any point against the Lions. Georgetown never led by more than 4 at any point in what was a tight game throughout. First half turnovers proved costly for the Tigers as FHU was able to score 13 points in the half off Tiger giveaways. Georgetown led at the half, 33-31.

The second half difference proved to be free throw shooting, in favor of Freed-Hardeman. The Lions shot 15-21 from the foul line over the final 2 quarters, whereas Georgetown was just 3-4 in the half and 7-10 for the game. The +13 differential at the foul line and 18 points off 15 Tiger turnovers made the difference in the second tight game between the teams this season.

Erin Toller finished the night 11-19 shooting and 6-11 from 3 to reach the 30-point plateau for the 2nd time this season. Madison Darnell and Jalynn Landversicht each finished with 7 points, while AJ Stevenson and Izzy Lamparty ended with 6 each.

The Tigers will stay in Tennessee on Saturday to take on the Bethel Wildcats. It marks the 2nd time the teams have met this year. On January 5th, Georgetown knocked off Bethel, 79-66, with Erin Toller tallying her other 30-point game on the year. Tipoff is set for 2:00pm ET.
