3-pointers difference in Tigers loss

Georgetown had 4 players reach double-figure scoring, but it was not enough as Campbellsville shot 8-14 from 3-point range to take down Georgetown, 78-66.

The Tigers of Georgetown fell in an early hole against the 3rd-ranked team in the country. GC shot just 5-16 in the 1st quarter, while Campbellsville was 10-13 from the field, in taking a 23-12 lead to the 2nd.

Georgetown got its offense going in the 2nd, scoring 21 points on 47% shooting, including 9 points from Callie Jackson in the quarter. The 3-point shooting for Campbellsville showed itself in the 2nd as CU shot 4-5 from beyond the arc and 50% overall, to add to its lead and enjoy a 49-33 advantage at the break.

In the 3rd, Georgetown made adjustments and played its best defensive quarter of the game, holding CU to just 4 made baskets and 33% shooting with 4 turnovers. The Tigers only made minimal progress on the deficit though as Campbellsville forced 5 Tiger turnovers and held Georgetown to 5 made baskets. Campbellsville took a 14-point lead to the 4th.

Georgetown's defense showed strong early in the 4th, holding Campbellsville scoreless for the 1st 3 minutes, 19 seconds. In that span, the GC got a 3-point bucket from Erin Toller and an inside basket from Raevyn Harris to cut the deficit down to 9. The Tigers would get as close as 7 with 4:55 to go at 65-58. Campbellsville would answer with a 6-0 run in less than 90 seconds, pushing the lead back out to 13 with just over 3 minutes to go. Georgetown would not get within single digits the rest of the way.

While Campbellsville used its hot 3-point shooting to build and sustain its lead, Georgetown could not find the same range to get back in the game. GC finished the night 3-15 from beyond the arc. Campbellsville also made it tough by dishing out an impressive 24 assists on 29 made field goals.

Erin Toller led GC in scoring with 18, Izzy Lamparty ended the night with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Callie Jackson was strong off the bench with 13 points and 2 assists. Madison Darnell tallied another double-double in her illustrious career. She finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

The inside game was strong for GC all night as the Tigers grabbed 11 offensive rebounds, turning them into 12 2nd chance points. They also outscored Campbellsville, 36-32, in the paint, while shooting 15-16 from the foul line.

The Tigers return home for the regular season finale and Senior Day on Saturday against Lindsey Wilson, starting at 1:00pm.
