Tigers dominate #20 Indiana Tech

After 3 comfortable wins to start the 2023-24 season, Georgetown faced its stiffest test yet as they took on 20th-ranked Indiana Tech. In a rematch of last year's opener, Georgetown passed this test with flying colors in a suffocating performance. The Tigers held the Warriors to just 30 percent shooting and forced 14 turnovers in a 74-49 rout.

The defense was stout from the start as Indiana Tech shot just 5-19 from the floor in the 1st quarter, including 0-8 from beyond the arc. On the Tiger side, Ellie Wilkerson got the offense going in the 1st thanks to 6 points on 3-4 shooting. Erin Toller knocked down the only 3 of the period, which saw Georgetown take a 17-10 lead to the 2nd. While the 2nd quarter proved equally tough for the Warriors to score (5-16 shooting), Georgetown shot just 41% in the quarter, allowing Indiana Tech to hang close throughout. Indiana Tech hit 2 threes late in the period, but both teams went the final 1:26 without a point as Georgetown took a 32-22 lead to the halftime break.

Out of halftime, Georgetown took its halfcourt defense to another level. Indiana Tech shot just 3-18 from the field in the 3rd and only put up 8 points. On the other end, Georgetown shot 7-10 inside the arc, with 6 players adding to the scoring tally. The Tigers outscored the Warriors, 22-8, in the 3rd to blow the game wide open. Georgetown led 54-30 after 3.

By the time the 4th got going, it was clear what the end result was going to be, although Indiana Tech did shoot 54% in the quarter. Georgetown just continued to be better, shooting 64% (9-14) in the final 10 minutes. 7 Tigers scored in the 4th to cap off a balanced scoring night across the orange & black board.

Indiana Tech's Erika Foy finished the game with 22 points. Nobody else for the Warriors scored more than 7 all night long. Conversely, Georgetown was all about the balance, which proved to be far too much for the Warriors to handle. Erin Toller, Ellie Wilkerson, and Trinity Klock each scored 12 to tie for the team-high. Izzy Lamparty and AJ Stevenson each added 10 points. Jalynn Landversicht scored 9, while Teionni McDaniel added 4. Jordan Rogers hit her only 3-point attempt and Callie Jackson went 2-2 at the foul line.

The Tigers return to Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Wednesday, November 8 to take on Wilmington College with a 7:00pm tip time.
