6 Tigers reach double figures in romp over Wilmington

Georgetown took on Wilmington College in the 5th straight home game to start the 2023-24 season. Just like the previous 4 contests, the Tigers had little trouble for 40 minutes against the Quakers. GC led wire-to-wire in a 100-64 win to improve to 5-0 on the year.

Ellie Wilkerson got the offense going early with the first 6 points of the game. Izzy Lamparty and Erin Toller followed with buckets and Georgetown led 11-0, just 2:27 into the 1st quarter. Wilmington would slowly settle in and chip away at the deficit. A Quaker 3 with 1:13 to go in the 1st brought the score to 25-18, Georgetown. Raevyn Harris and AJ Stevenson countered with 5 straight to put the Tigers up 12. Wilmington would never get within 10 points the rest of the way.

With Georgetown leading 30-20 heading to the 2nd, the Tigers pulled a repeat of the 1st quarter by starting on an 11-0 run. Wilmington called a timeout trailing 41-20 after a Teionni McDaniel steal and lay-in with 6:30 to go in the half. The Tigers slowly built on the lead as 8 different players scored in the quarter, all while holding Wilmington to just 3-12 shooting with 9 turnovers. Georgetown outscored the Quakers, 24-8, in the period, to take a 54-28 lead at halftime.

Wilmington found better offense in the 3rd, going 4-8 from 3 to keep the margin at a similar number, but Georgetown kept its offense going by making 10 shots in the period, with 7 offensive rebounds being a major contributor. It was 78-48, GC, as the game moved to the 4th. Georgetown then became the one to knock down 4 threes in a quarter. Jordan Rogers, Sophie Smith, Shelbi Wilson and Callie Jackson all connected from beyond the arc in the final 10 minutes, which proved to be a microcosm of the game as the Tigers broke 100 points for the 2nd time this year.

The Tigers proved their flexibility and balance on this night. Every Tiger on the roster got into the scoring column. Callie Jackson led the team with 13 points and 6 boards. AJ Stevenson and Ellie Wilkerson each scored 12. Jordan Rogers scored 8 of her 11 in the 4th. Teionni McDaniel and Jalynn Landversicht scored 10 each. Landversicht also pulled down 4 offensive rebounds. Erin Toller and Izzy Lamparty chipped in with 8 apiece. Sophie Smith added 5, while Trinity Klock and Raevyn Harris had 4 each and Shelbi Wilson knocked down that 4th quarter 3-pointer.

In total, the Tigers shot 50% for the game and nailed 12 threes. They also pulled down 17 offensive boards and dished out 25 assists. Defensively, Georgetown forced 22 turnovers and scored 30 points off.

The Tigers will go for a 6th straight home win on Friday against Simmons College, starting at 5:30pm.
