Toller's torrid 1st quarter kickstarts Brescia blowout

There are hot starts. There are white hot starts, and then there is what Erin Toller did on Saturday against Brescia. In the 1st quarter alone, Toller went 6-6 from 3-point range and scored 20 points, setting off a Tigers offense that hit 17 threes in a 102-49 win to move to 8-0 on the season. The tally marked the 3rd time the Tigers crossed into triple digits.

Toller's onslaught started just 11 seconds into the game. Her first three came from the left wing off a Teionni McDaniel pass and the romp was on. She hit her 2nd three just 1:03 later to give Georgetown a 6-2 lead. After a Brescia 3-point play, Toller nailed her third 3 in the first 1:57 of the game, forcing Brescia into a timeout. The 4th three came with 4:48 to go in the 1st and gave the Tigers a 22-7 lead. On the ensuing Bearcat possession, Toller stole a pass inside and on the other end, she hit her 5th 3 to make the game a 25-7 score. Fans in attendance were almost in a state of laughter, but mainly marvel at what Toller was doing. 25 seconds later, Toller dropped her 6th bomb of the quarter, giving GC a 28-7 lead with 3:47 to go in the 1st. Sophie Smith and Jordan Rogers followed Toller's lead as they each connected from distance late in the quarter. In the waning seconds, Smith blocked a Brescia shot. AJ Stevenson picked up the ball and as time expired, she launched a perfect shot from halfcourt that banked in. It was Georgetown's 9th three on 10 tries in the quarter. It gave Georgetown a 41-14 lead after 1. In total, Georgetown shot 70% from the field in the 1st with 11 assists on 14 baskets, along with 8 forced turnovers.

The 41 points set a new program record for points in a quarter since women's college basketball switched to the 4-quarter format in the 2015-16 season.

Georgetown led 54-28 at halftime. In the 3rd, Trinity Klock took her game up a notch. Klock scored 10 of the Tigers' 20 points, while also grabbing 5 boards (3 offensive). The Tigers put a final bow on the game by shooting 65% in the 4th quarter. Raevyn Harris scored 8 of her season-high 10 points in the frame.

Harris was one of 5 Tigers in double-figures. Toller led the way with 21 points. Klock finished with 14 points, 7 boards and 4 assists. AJ Stevenson turned in a strong overall night with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal. Ellie Wilkerson joined Harris with 10 points.

17 of Georgetown's 37 made baskets were from beyond the arc. The Tigers balanced attack led to 27 assists and 20 offensive rebounds.

The Tigers will take their high-flying act down to Kingsport, TN to play in The Show during Thanksgiving weekend. Georgetown will face Union on Friday, November 24 at 7:45pm.
