44-0 run leads to rout of Union

In its first game in The Show in Kingsport, TN, #21 Georgetown delivered a near masterpiece as it did not allow a single 2nd quarter point to Union (0-8). It was part of a 44-0 run that led to a 111-40 win and powering Georgetown to a 9-0 record. The 111 points are the most since Jeff Nickel became the Tigers' head coach. It marks the 2nd time the Tigers have not allowed a single point in a quarter (2017 vs Johnson).

Union hit an opening 3-pointer but Georgetown quickly followed with layups from Trinity Klock and Erin Toller. It kickstarted a run of 20 straight for the Tigers in the 1st quarter. Jordan Rogers hit a 3-pointer late in the 1st to give Georgetown a 23-10 lead. The basket also started the scoring run of 44 unanswered. Georgetown led 27-10 after 1, shooting 50% from the floor and 9-11 at the line.

The 2nd quarter was literally all Georgetown. The Tigers outscored the Bulldogs, 29-0, to rip the lid off the contest. Union missed all 10 of its shots and committed 11 turnovers. Georgetown went 10-14 from the field and 9-10 from the line. Teionni McDaniel tallied 8 points and 2 steals in the quarter to lead GC. Georgetown led 56-10 at halftime.

GC scored the first 8 points of the 3rd before Union hit a free throw to end the drought. The Bulldogs slowly found some offense, tallying a game-high 17 points in the quarter. Their defense, however, was no match for Georgetown. The Tigers put up a 30-spot in the 3rd with Ellie Wilkerson and Trinity Klock each scoring 7 to lead the way. Raevyn Harris took her turn in the dominant win with 9 points in the 4th quarter. She finished with 13 points and added 2 blocks.

Teionni McDaniel, Jordan Rogers and AJ Stevenson all ended with a team-high 15 points. McDaniel added 4 steals. Izzy Lamparty also had 4 steals in the game while Erin Toller finished with 5. Intotal, Georgetown had 21 steals and forced 34 turnovers, which led to 53 Tiger points. Georgetown also poured in 60 paint points.

The Tigers will face its next major test on Saturday night against #7 Rio Grande. Tipoff in Kingsport, TN is slated for 9:30pm ET.
