Tigers improve to 12-0 after 40-point win over WVU Tech

Georgetown's unbeaten start to the year has often been due to quick starts against the opponent. The trend continued on Saturday against West Virginia Tech as the Tigers scored the first 10 points in just 2 minutes, 3 seconds. It set the tone for a 96-56 win to move the Tigers to a perfect 12-0.

It was the combo of AJ Stevenson and Erin Toller who scored all 10 of the opening points of the game, igniting a big day for both. 2 free throws from Izzy Lamparty and a Trinity Klock jumper followed and Georgetown led 14-2 just over 3 minutes in. Jalynn Landversicht got going next with a 3-pointer and a lay-in to help the Tigers maintain a double-digit lead. Georgetown led 28-16 after the 1st. GC tallied 11 assists on 11 made baskets in the quarter and shot 8-9 inside the 3-point line.

The 2nd quarter proved more of a defensive 10 minutes as neither team shot above 42% nor broke the 20-point barrier. The Tigers had 5 steals in the quarter but were unable to use it to break the game wide open as they added only 4 points to the lead, to take a 46-30 advantage to the locker room.

In the 3rd, the Tigers offense got back to form in a big way. Georgetown shot 12-17 from the floor and hit 6 of its 9 3-point tries. Erin Toller scored 13 of her game-high 21 in the period. The Tigers' defense also went up another level as the Golden Bears shot just 3-12 and committed 9 turnovers, leading to only 10 points for the entire quarter. The Tiger starting 5 scored 33 of the team's 34 points in the quarter and broke the game wide open. Georgetown led 80-40 after 3. The margin stayed the same in the 4th as each team put up just 16 points in the final 10 minutes, giving Georgetown its 6th win of 40 points or more. It also marked the 8th time in 12 games that an opponent failed to score 60 points.

Along with 21 points from Erin Toller, Teionni McDaniel flirted with a triple-double by tallying 16 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Izzy Lamparty was solid on both ends, finishing with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and a block. AJ Stevenson ended the day with 13 points and 5 assists. Trinity Klock tallied 11 points and 7 rebounds. The total team effort had nice contributions off the bench to boot. Jalynn Landversicht finished with 8 points and 5 assists. Jordan Rogers and Sophie Smith scored 6 each. Shelbi Wilson and Raevyn Harris combined to go 5-6 from the foul line. In total, the Tigers racked up 29 assists on 34 made field goals.

Georgetown now gets ready for a big showdown next Saturday at 6th-ranked Marian. Tip time in Indianapolis is set for 1:00pm ET.
