Toller, McDaniel combine for 43 in win over Lindsey Wilson

After a tough scoring night on Thursday against Campbellsville, Georgetown bounced back in a big way on Saturday. Led by 25 from Erin Toller and 18 from Teionni McDaniel, the Tigers went on the road and knocked off Lindsey Wilson, 80-72, to sweep the regular season series and get back above .500 in the MSC.

Georgetown came out aggressive from the start. 3 straight layups inside the first 3 minutes forced an early Blue Raiders timeout as the Tigers raced out to a 7-2 lead. Toller would follow with another lay-in out of the timeout to push the lead to 7. After 2 Lindsey Wilson baskets, Toller hit the 1st of her 5 threes on the day to give GC a 12-6 lead midway through the 1st. She would finish off the 1st quarter with a last-second basket to finish the quarter with 9 points. Georgetown took an 18-14 lead to the 2nd.

The Tiger offense hit a wall in the 2nd quarter as shots would not fall. GC shot just 5-19 in the quarter but were able to maintain a lead throughout as Lindsey Wilson committed 8 turnovers. Much like Thursday, Jalynn Landversicht showed up big in the 2nd. The senior finished the quarter with 6 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals, which proved huge in stopping Lindsey Wilson from grabbing the lead heading to the break. Georgetown held the lead at halftime, but the margin was just 3 at 35-32.

For all the Tigers' offensive struggles in the 2nd, the story proved the exact opposite in the 3rd. Led by Toller and Teionni McDaniel, Georgetown shot 11-15 in the 3rd, including Toller's 3-4 3-point shooting. An inside basket from Trinity Klock gave Georgetown a 45-36 lead with 7:17 to go in the frame. Lindsey Wilson countered with a 16-4 run to grab a 52-49 lead with 3:32 left. Georgetown scratched back and with 1:57 to go, Jalynn Landversicht scored to put GC ahead, 55-54. The basket ultimately put Georgetown ahead for good, and thanks to late baskets from Toller and McDaniel, the Tigers took a 63-56 lead to the 4th.

Defense took back over the game early in the 4th on both sides. 4 minutes in, the teams scored just 4 points each. Teionni McDaniel then hit a big 3 with 5:22 to go, giving GC a 70-61 advantage. LWC countered with 5 straight to get within 4, but the Toller-McDaniel duo countered with scores to send the lead back to 8 with 3:34 to go. After a defensive stand, McDaniel drove to the bucket, scored and was fouled for a 3-point play. Georgetown led 77-66 with 1:43 to go and made enough free throws down the stretch to nullify any Blue Raider comeback hopes.

Teionni McDaniel scored 17 of her 18 points after halftime, including 10 in the 4th quarter. The game marked the 1st 20+ point game for Erin Toller since January 4th at Wilberforce. Jalynn Landverischt and Trinity Klock each continued their strong play off the bench. The duo each ended the day with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Izzy Lamparty finished with 7 points and 6 rebounds while going 3-3 from the field.

The Tigers next come back to Davis-Reid Alumni Gym for a Thursday game against Freed-Hardeman. Tip time is set for 5:30pm.
