Tigers pick up critical Senior Day win over Cumberlands

On the final home day of the season, Georgetown honored Shelbi Wilson, Jalynn Landversicht and Callie Jackson as they took to the home floor for the final time in the regular season. The seniors were rewarded with a 72-67 win over #15 Cumberlands, moving the Tigers closer to the 2-seed in the Mid-South Conference Tournament.

Jalynn Landversicht didn't wait long to make her presence felt as she got the start and scored the first 4 points of the day. Callie Jackson launched a 3 moments later to give the Tigers a 9-5 lead 4 minutes into the 1st quarter. The Patriots fought back to tie until Teionni McDaniel connected from deep to give the Tigers a lead of 12-9 midway through the 1st. The teams would continue to exchange baskets and the lead the rest of the quarter as Cumberlands took a 22-21 edge to the 2nd.

The 2nd quarter was a defensive slugfest. Neither team scored from the field until a Trinity Klock lay-in with 4:58 to go to give Georgetown a 24-23 lead. Cumberlands tied the game at 24 with just over 3 minutes left before Georgetown erupted with 8 points in just 47 seconds, thanks to a bucket from Ellie Wilkerson and consecutive threes from Erin Toller. Cumberlands got a score back, but Wilkerson then nailed a 3, followed by a Klock basket inside. Georgetown stunningly led 37-26 with 1:23 to go and took a 39-31 lead to the locker room. The Tigers held the high-powered Patriots offense to just 2-16 shooting over the 10-minute period.

Baskets from Izzy Lamparty and Teionni McDaniel early in the 3rd forced Cumberlands to a timeout as it trailed, 43-31, just 90 seconds into the quarter. From there, the Tiger offense cooled off and the Patriots began chipping away at the deficit. An 11-5 stretch cut the Georgetown lead to 6 with 4:45 to go. Out of a timeout, Jalynn Landversicht knocked down a big 3 to push the lead back to 9 at 51-42. The margin would stay the same going to the 4th.

Trinity Klock found the range to give Georgetown a 57-46 lead with 8:42 to go. Cumberlands answered by scoring 8 of the next 11 points to get within 60-54 with 4:48 left in the game. Landversicht again nailed a 3, but the Patriots answered right back on the next possession. An Ellie Wilkerson jumper gave Georgetown a 65-57 lead with 3:33 left, but Cumberlands would not go away. A Tiger turnover led to a UC basket, followed by a 3 after Georgetown missed a shot at the rim. With just over 2 minutes to go, Erin Toller missed twice at the foul line with the Tigers leading 65-62. 2 possessions later, the Patriots' Channing Lewis dialed up a 3-pointer from the right wing to tie the game at 65 with 1:34 left. After a Tiger timeout, Trinity Klock went to work inside and laid the ball up and in to put GC back ahead. On the ensuing possession, Ellie Wilkerson stepped in front of a Patriot pass in the lane. It led to a Georgetown runout which saw Klock grabbed a missed layup and get fouled. Klock calmly stepped to the line and nailed 2 huge free throws. Georgetown now led 69-65 with 42 seconds to go. Cumberlands briefly got back within 2 but Georgetown made 3-4 free throws to close out the win.

Ellie Wilkerson, Trinity Klock and Teionni McDaniel made more than sure their senior teammates went out with a win. The trio combined for 42 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals and 3 blocks. Jalynn Landversicht finished with 11 points. Callie Jackson ended with 3 points and 3 rebounds.
