Tigers cruise by Phoenix in regular season finale

Georgetown raced out to a 10-0 lead over Cumberland and never looked back in a 73-59 win to close out the regular season on Saturday in Lebanon, TN.

Early threes from AJ Stevenson and Teionni McDaniel got the Tigers rolling as part of the 10-0 start. A three from Erin Toller pushed the lead to 15-2 and forced a Cumberland timeout with 5:52 left in the opening quarter. After another 3 from Toller, Izzy Lamparty later scored inside and with 4:36 to go, the Tigers had exploded to a 24-4 lead. The margin ultimately reached 29-13 after 1 as the Tigers shot 71% in the quarter, including 5-8 from beyond the arc. GC also showed strong distribution with 8 assists on 12 baskets.

The offense slowed in the 2nd quarter, but the defense did not. Cumberland was held to 5-15 from the floor and nothing from 3-point range as Georgetown led 44-28 at halftime. Defense proved the story the rest of the way as Cumberland never threatened the Tigers at any juncture. After the 1st quarter, the Phoenix never got within 12 points for the rest of the game.

Georgetown held Cumberland to 36% shooting for the game and just 2-11 from 3-point range. Erin Toller led Georgetown with 22 points on 7-12 shooting. Izzy Lamparty was strong and efficient inside, scoring 16 points on 7-8 shooting. AJ Stevenson had a tough night shooting but still ended with 9 points and a team-high 7 boards. The Tigers also distributed the ball well, tallying 16 assists, with 5 players recording multiple assists.

The Tigers next head to Bowling Green for the Mid-South Conference Tournament, starting on Friday, March 1st.
