Lamparty nearly perfect in MSC Quarters win

Despite a cold shooting night from the perimeter, Georgetown dominated Cumberland in Friday's MSC Quarterfinal thanks to a dominant effort in the paint. Izzy Lamparty missed just once in 12 tries from the floor. The junior finished with 22 points, leading the Tigers to an 85-67 win and a date with Cumberlands in Sunday's MSC Semifinal.

Teionni McDaniel got the Tigers going in the 1st with a jumper 21 seconds in that gave GC a lead it would never relinquish. Lamparty followed with consecutive baskets. McDaniel followed with a 3 and Georgetown led 9-4 just over 3 minutes in. McDaniel finished off the scoring late in the first to finish the period with 9 points along with a block and steal. Georgetown led Cumberland, 20-12, after 1.

The Tigers started the 2nd quarter attacking inside. 2 layups from Jalynn Landversicht, a short jumper from Trinity Klock and a lay-in from McDaniel gave the Tigers an 8-0 run to start the quarter and a 28-12 lead, forcing Cumberland into a timeout. Cumberland fought back within 12 at 32-20 before Izzy Lamparty took off. She scored the Tigers' next 10 points, keeping Cumberland at bay and building the lead out to 42-24 with just over 2 minutes left. Jalynn Landversicht connected from deep in the final 10 seconds as Georgetown took a 48-29 advantage to the locker room. It capped a half in which the Tigers shot a blistering 64% from the field.

Lamparty picked up where she left off in the 3rd with the quarter's opening basket, pushing the lead to its largest to date at 50-29. The Tiger offense cooled off in the 3rd, going just 6-18 shooting, but the defense remained ever present, holding CU to just 5-13 from the field. The Phoenix' only saving grace was a 9-12 quarter at the foul line, but Georgetown still led 66-48 going to the 4th.

Georgetown's offense was sluggish to start the 4th, hitting just 1 basket in the first 4:35 of the quarter. It allowed Cumberland to cut the deficit to 70-57. When the Tigers needed a basket, they turned back to Izzy Lamparty. The junior delivered with buckets on consecutive possessions to push the lead back to 17 midway through the 4th. It proved to be the final threat Cumberland would pose as Georgetown never looked back for the 18-point win.

In addition to 22 points on 11-12 shooting, Lamparty grabbed 6 rebounds and a steal. She was named the player of the game for her efforts. Teionni McDaniel ended with 17 points and 2 steals. Ellie Wilkerson and Trinity Klock finished with 14 and 11, respectively, as the Tigers dominated in the paint, 54-22. Georgetown also proved its running game was lethal, outscoring the Phoenix 22-2 on the fastbreak.

The Tigers now turn their attention to the Mid-South Conference Semifinals and the rubber match against Cumberlands. Tip time on Sunday is slated for 3:30pm ET in Bowling Green.
