Lamparty perfect as Tigers crush Milligan to advance

In 15 minutes of action, Izzy Lamparty hit every shot and free throw she took from the field as Georgetown opened the NAIA Women's Basketball Tournament with an 87-61 thrashing of 14-seed Milligan to advance to Saturday's 2nd Round. The Tigers followed suit behind the Georgetown men who also led wire-to-wire in their 1st Round game on Friday.

Erin Toller hit an opening 3-pointer just 11 seconds in to put Georgetown on the board. It would prove to be the smallest lead of the night for the Tigers against the Milligan Buffs. Toller connected again from deep 3 possessions later for an early 6-1 lead. Lamparty hit the first of her shots from the floor, followed by consecutive jumpers from Teionni McDaniel, to give GC a 12-5 lead midway through the 1st. Callie Jackson and Ellie Wilkerson took turns getting in on the scoring as Georgetown led, 20-8, with just over 2 minutes left in the 1st. Trinity Klock hit 2 free throws as the Tigers took a 22-10 lead to the 2nd.

The free throws awakened Klock heading to the 2nd as she hit 4 shots in the first 3:40 as part of a 12-2 to start the quarter and break the game wide open as Milligan now found itself down, 34-12. Lamparty then went on a run of 6 straight to push the lead to 40-18. Klock hit another jumper late in the quarter to finish the 2nd with 10 points and 4 boards, pushing Georgetown to a 42-20 lead at halftime. While the offense was in a groove, the defense was even better. Milligan shot just 7-26 from the field in the half and were outscored in points off turnovers, 10-0.

Erin Toller started the 2nd half the way she started the 1st: a long-range 3. AJ Stevenson kept the roll going with back-to-back jumpers to give GC a 51-23 lead with 7:44 to go in the quarter. Lamparty and Toller followed as Milligan could not slow the Tigers down and the lead swelled to 56-27 with 6:24 to go in the 3rd. Jordan Rogers came on for 2 late jumpers in the 3rd to give Georgetown a 68-38 lead heading to the 4th.

Ellie Wilkerson hit a 3 early in the 4th to give Georgetown its largest lead of the night: 32. Raevyn Harris and Shelbi Wilson hit from the field in the 4th to put all 12 Tigers into the scoring column in the 26-point win.

Izzy Lamparty went 5-5 from the field and 4-4 from the line for 14 points in 15 minutes. Trinity Klock was dominant on both ends and finished with 16 points and 7 boards. Klock led a Georgetown bench that outscored Milligan's 46-12. Erin Toller hit 4 threes on the night to tie Lamparty with 14. Ellie Wilkerson finished with 11. The Tigers also did a stellar job sharing the basketball as the team finished with 22 assists. 7 Tigers had multiple assists in the game.

Georgetown advances to Saturday's 2nd Round to take on the host school, Loyola. Tip time is set for 6:00pm ET with the winner advancing to Sioux City.
