6 Tigers reach double figures in opening rout of Simmons

Women's Basketball kicked off the 2024-25 season with a mix of veteran returners and several newcomers to earn a preseason ranking of #11, the highest in 11 years. The talent was on display from the start on Thursday against Simmons. Georgetown scored the first 7 points of the night and never trailed in a 99-71 romp.

Trinity Klock scored 6 of those first 7 points en route to a 14-point, 12-rebound night. Just 2:43 into the game, the score read Trinity Klock 9, Simmons 2. Izzy Lamparty then got going in place of Klock in the 1st with several early buckets. Lamparty finished the night with 16 points and 11 boards in 24 minutes off the bench. Transfer Annie Watson also came off the bench and produced in the 1st quarter and basically all night long. She ended with 19 points on 8-9 shooting in just 18 minutes of action. Georgetown shot 11-15 from the field, including 10-11 on 2-point shots, to lead Simmons, 27-14 after 1.

Defense stepped up a notch in the 2nd quarter as Georgetown held Simmons to just 5 made baskets while forcing 5 turnovers. Watson and AJ Stevenson each scored 6 in the frame, including a half-court buzzer beater by Stevenson to send Georgetown to the locker room with a 56-33 lead after a 67% shooting clip in the quarter.

The 3rd quarter saw some sloppiness as the teams combined for 17 turnovers. The Simmons offense was unable to find a rhythm out of halftime as the Falcons shot just 5-15 in the 3rd and committed 9 turnovers. Teionni McDaniel led Georgetown in the period with 6 points and 3 steals as the lead widened to 34 heading to the 4th.

The Tigers' led by as many as 42 on the night before Simmons got some back in the 4th for the 28-point final margin. Georgetown shot 58% from the floor on the night and outrebounded Simmons by 20. Teionni McDaniel ended with 12 points and 4 steals. Anna Long made her Tiger debut with 11 points and 4 rebounds. AJ Stevenson tallied 10 points and 4 steals in just 13 minutes off the bench.
