Trinity Klock dominates in win over Harriers
After a quiet night on Thursday in a 101-54 win over Washington Adventist, Georgetown's Trinity Klock set out to prove herself on Friday against Miami-Hamilton. As it turned out, she did that and then some. Klock turned in a 19-point, 18-rebound performance in the Tigers' 83-64 win over the Harriers to improve to 4-1 on the year.
Klock got the Tigers going early with an opening assist on a Sophie Smith 3-pointer. Klock grabbed a rebound and followed it with a short jumper to give Georgetown an early 5-2 lead. Miami-Hamilton's Gabby Martin knocked down consecutive threes to push the Harriers ahead, 10-7, but Anna Long had the answer with a 3 of her own to tie the game at 10 with 5:46 to go in the quarter. Miami-Hamilton took a 15-13 lead with 3:29 to go, but it would be the final Harrier points of the quarter. Georgetown ended the quarter with 9 straight points, capped by a Klock lay-up and Smith 3-pointer for a 22-15 Tigers lead after 1. Klock finished the quarter with 6 boards.
Teionni McDaniel got the Tigers going in the 2nd with a free throw, followed by a steal that led to an AJ Stevenson 3. Georgetown had a 26-15 lead a minute into the quarter and forced Miami-Hamilton into a timeout. Trinity Klock extended the run to 15 straight with lay-in at the 7:53 mark. Miami-Hamilton finally scored with 6:48 to go in the 2nd, ending a run of 6 minutes, 41 seconds of game time with no points. Klock answered again inside to give Georgetown a 30-18 lead with 6:31 to go in the 2nd. Sophie Smith followed with another 3 at the midway point to extend the lead back to 12. The teams traded buckets the rest of the way with the Harriers cutting the margin to 41-32 at halftime.
Georgetown came out strong to start the 3rd quarter. In 2:45 time, the Tigers went on an 11-2 spurt to take a 52-34 lead and force the Harriers to another timeout. Georgetown then went scoreless for nearly 3 minutes, allowing Miami-Hamilton to shave 6 points off the lead. A late Anna Long layup put an end to a 3rd quarter that saw Georgetown shoot just 39% with 6 turnovers. The Tiger lead stood at 57-47 going to the 4th.
Teionni McDaniel started the 4th with a three on the opening possession for a 13-point lead. Izzy Lamparty followed shortly with a personal 5-0 run to give Georgetown a 66-52 lead with 7:46 to play. After a Harrier bucket, McDaniel nailed another 3 and was followed by a Callie Jackson lay-up. The spurt gave Georgetown a 71-54 lead with 6:33 to play. Lamparty and Klock followed with inside buckets as the lead swelled to 21 amidst a 3:03 stretch of no points from the Harriers. Miami-Hamilton never got closer than 15 points the rest of the way.
Trinity Klock's 19 points led a quartet of Tigers in double figures. Sophie Smith followed her record-breaking 18-assist night on Thursday with 7 more on Friday to go along with 15 points. Anna Long scored 13 and Teionni McDaniel added 12. Georgetown also got 9 points and 10 rebounds from AJ Stevenson and 9 points, 6 boards from Izzy Lamparty off the bench. The effort on the glass gave the Tigers a +20 margin.
Georgetown is next in action on Thursday night against IU Columbus. Tip time from Davis-Reid Alumni Gym is set for 5:30pm.
