Stevenson explodes as Tigers cruise to 2nd Round

Although Georgetown drew the highest seed of their 4-team group, the Tigers had to make the trek to Great Falls, Montana to begin the 2025 NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship. The 1st Round pitted the Tigers against the Jamestown Jimmies. AJ Stevenson went off as it was all Georgetown from the start. The Tigers rolled by Jamestown, 93-62, to move to the 2nd Round.

The teams traded baskets early and split the first 12 points. Teionni McDaniel broke the tie with a 3 at the 6:56 mark of the opening quarter. Jamestown free throws cut the lead to one before another basket from McDaniel for an 11-8 lead. Trinity Klock then made her presence felt with a 3-point play and an eventual layup as Georgetown took a 21-13 lead. A bucket from Izzy Lamparty pushed the lead to 10. AJ Stevenson then got on the board with 1:46 to go to keep the lead at 10 (25-15). Jamestown hit a late 3 to cut Georgetown's lead to 7 after the 1st.

Once the 2nd quarter got going, Georgetown broke the game wide open. Stevenson got it started with a score inside in the opening 25 seconds. After a stop, Stevenson then stepped beyond the arc for a 3 to give Georgetown a 30-18 lead. Jamestown countered with a 3 of its own, but it did little to stem the tide. Stevenson capped a 7-0 run as Georgetown had a 37-21 lead with 6:56 to play. Jamestown then scored inside and watched Stevenson score from outside. Another 3 gave the Tigers a 40-23 lead. Trinity Klock then stepped up on defense with a block and clearance that led to a 3rd Stevenson three to push the lead to 20 with 5:35 to play until halftime. Stevenson need just 5 minutes in the quarter to put up 13 points. As a team, Georgetown shot 13-17 from the floor, including a perfect 6-6 from three-point range. Jordan Rogers capped the 35-point quarter with the 6th three as Georgetown took a 60-33 lead to halftime.

The halftime layoff did not bother AJ Stevenson at all. She played the entire 3rd quarter and added 8 more points to her total, including 6 from beyond the arc. The capper to the night was 2 more threes in the first 1:24 of the 4th quarter to give Georgetown an 84-54 lead. From there, the Tigers closed out the win.

In 27 minutes, AJ Stevenson made 11 of 15 shots from the field, including 7-9 from three-point range to finish with 29 points. Not lost in Stevenson's night was Trinity Klock having a perfect shooting night. She finished 6-6 from the floor and 13 points to go with 6 rebounds. Izzy Lamparty tallied 12 and Teionni McDaniel scored 11 and had 7 assists. In total, Georgetown shot 59% from the floor and 52% from beyond the arc.
