Women's Basketball punches ticket to Sioux City

For the first time since 2012, Georgetown Women's Basketball has won multiple NAIA Tournament games. In 2025, the Tigers knocked of the College of Idaho in the 2nd Round with a 79-70 win to punch its ticket to the Round of 16 in Sioux City, IA.

College of Idaho got off to a quick start, taking a 7-2 lead with 7:39 to play in the first quarter. Teionni McDaniel and Trinity Klock quickly countered with the next 5 for the tie. Klock then grabbed a missed Yotes layup, followed it with an offensive rebound and stick back for the lead at 9-7. Georgetown kept the run going and with 4:16 to play, Sophie Smith scored inside to cap a 13-0 run and give the Tigers a 15-7 lead. CI got a 3-point play to trim the margin to 5 with 3:25 to go. It was their final field goal until 5:34 in the 2nd quarter. Georgetown went on a 16-4 run in that time to rocket out to a 31-12 lead. The Yotes settled in the rest of the quarter and got within 11 at 37-26, but Sophie Smith hit a last-second three to give the Tigers a 14-point halftime lead. Trinity Klock already had a double-double by the half with 10 points and 11 rebounds. The defense was the biggest factor in the big lead. College of Idaho shot just 4-21 in the first quarter and 26% for the half.

Teionni McDaniel scored a quick 5 points to start the 3rd and grow the lead to 19. A Trinity Klock score with 5:55 to play capped a 10-2 run to start the 3rd and give Georgetown a 50-28 lead. College of Idaho slowly settled in and trimmed the deficit to 15 inside the final minute. Callie Jackson scored with 32 seconds left as Georgetown took a 57-40 lead to the final quarter.

Once the 4th quarter began, College of Idaho made a serious push. In the first 3:18, Georgetown missed 4 free throws, turned the ball over 3 times, and missed 2 shots. College of Idaho made 3 straight threes and a layup for an 11-0 run to cut the Tiger lead to 57-51. With 6:18 left and out of a Georgetown timeout, AJ Stevenson scored inside to give the Tigers a badly-needed basket. After a Yote offensive foul, Teionni McDaniel connected from deep to push the lead to 11 at 62-51 with 5:51 to go. College of Idaho continued to stick around. 2 more threes around Anna Long free throws kept the Yotes within 7 at the 5:11 mark.

Less than 2 minutes later, Georgetown got scores from McDaniel and Stevenson for a 71-59 lead with 3:28 to play. College of Idaho hit another 3 to cut the margin back to 9. AJ Stevenson had the answer with a big three of her own to push the lead to 12 with 2:48 to go. It proved the critical moment as College of Idaho never got closer than 9 points again as Georgetown closed out the 9-point win. Georgetown held on despite College of Idaho going 8-11 from three-point range in the 4th quarter.

Teionni McDaniel led Georgetown with 26 points. Trinity Klock finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds and 7-8 shooting. In the 2 games in Montana, Klock made 13 of 14 shots. After a 29-point win in the opener, AJ Stevenson's encore was quieter but she still finished with 11 points and 4 assists.

Georgetown now prepares for a trip to Sioux City and a matchup with top-seed, Indiana Wesleyan. It will be the 2nd tournament meeting between the schools in 3 years. In 2023, IWU beat Georgetown, 88-70, in the 2nd round. The 2025 rematch will be played on either March 20th or 21st.
