Tigers send seniors out with big win

Senior Day went from honoring to celebrating as Georgetown College women's lacrosse wrapped up the 2021 regular season at home against Thomas More University. Following pregame, the team took a moment to recognize Tess Borders, Tyelar Rohman and Ollie Archer. Then it was a slow start against the Saints (0-6, 0-6), but the No. 10 Tigers (4-4, 4-2) kicked it into another gear for a 21-2 victory.

In the process, Archer reached 100 draws and 100 goals – she now has 102 – for her career at GC. It was a dominate performance to send the team into postseason. They had 21 goals with 14 assists on 35 shots on frame. Georgetown won 18 draws and controlled most of the game on the offensive end.

The only thing that slowed them after the first 10 minutes was the play of TMU keeper Kennedy Yurt. She came up with 14 saves.

Archer led the way in scoring with five goals, she added two assists as well. Mac Miller had four goals and three assists. Maddie Brock, Faith Boa and Jamie Holdcroft each had three goals and collectively had five assists. Jessi Vazzana, Natasha Underwood and Katie Maupin each had one goal, while Borders had three assists and Sophie Balas added two.

Borders was huge on securing the Tigers possessions with seven draws. Archer won five, while Vazzana and Miller each had three.

The team more than doubled its opponent in ground balls. Georgetown had 44. Boa led with seven. Borders had six and Brock five.

Mid-South Conference tournament starts Thursday as the Tigers play 6:30 against MSC South Division's Ave Maria University. The entire tournament is being hosted by University of the Cumberlands. For all tournament information – bracket, stats, video links – click here.
