Miller scores twice, Tigers fall in opener

Mac Miller scored twice in Georgetown's season opener at #7 Life, but it wasn't enough as the Running Eagles used an 8-1 3rd quarter advantage to knock off Georgetown, 16-3.

Defense was key through the 1st quarter as neither side could find much rhythm. With 7:50 left, Miller was able to find the net off a free position shot to level the game at 1 apiece heading to the 2nd.

Life took a 2-1 lead in the 2nd, but just 46 seconds later, Madison Diaz (making her collegiate debut) fired a free position shot home to tie things at 2. The Tigers would go quiet for the remainder of the quarter as Life scored 4 unanswered to take a 6-2 lead into halftime.

With the game still up for grabs, Life kept its run going in the 3rd. The Running Eagles scored 6 unanswered to start the quarter, taking a 12-2 lead. Mac Miller would score her 2nd with 5:58 left in the 3rd to stop the run, but Life would score twice more in the 3rd and twice in the 4th for the 16-3 win.

Turnovers and lack of draw controls would also hurt the Tigers on this day. Georgetown committed 24 turnovers, and won only 6 of 23 draw controls on the day.

Olivia Yakel and Madison Haney split time in goal for the Tigers. Yakel took the loss but made 12 saves. Haney made 5 saves in 26 minutes of action.
