Lacrosse suffers 1st AAC loss

6th-ranked Cumberlands raced out to a 5-0 1st quarter lead and never looked back. The Patriots knocked off Georgetown, 15-4, handing the Tigers their 1st AAC loss.

Cumberlands fired early and often on Tigers goalie Madison Haney, who got the start on a cool night in Williamsburg. On the other side, Georgetown struggled to find operating room against a tight Patriots defense. The Tigers would not tally their 1st goal until the 7:18 mark of the 2nd quarter, when Maddie Brock found the net, cutting the deficit to 6-1. Cumberlands would counter with 2 goals to close the half with an 8-1 lead.

All of Georgetown's 2nd half offense came in the 3rd quarter. Faith Boa scored twice along with a goal from Katerina Gilbert. The Tigers would be shut out in the 4th as Cumberlands outscored Georgetown 7-2 after halftime for the win.

Madison Haney recorded 11 saves as she went the distance in net. She also recorded 6 ground balls, tying her with Madison Catoggio for the team-high.

The Tigers step back out of conference to take on Aquinas (MI) on Monday, March 13th. The opening draw is set for 1:00pm at Great Crossing High School in Georgetown.
