Lacrosse falls in season opener at #5 Life

Georgetown Lacrosse faced a tough opponent to kick off the 2024 season in #5 Life. The Running Eagles showed their might early by scoring the first 5 goals in the 1st quarter, en route to a 16-3 win over the Tigers.

3 goals came in the 1st 4:24 against Georgetown. The Tigers finally got on the board with 6:32 left in the 1st as Madison Diaz fired a ball home off a free position shot to cut the deficit to 5-1. Life tallied 3 more goals in the final 4:07 for the 8-1 lead heading to the 2nd.

Both teams' defending tightened up in the 2nd. Life got a goal at the 11:47 mark for a 9-1 edge. Georgetown kept the Running Eagles at bay for over 4 minutes before Life found the net once more. A 3rd straight goal from Life with 6:12 to go made the game an 11-1 score and temporarily started the running clock. Madison Diaz stopped that with 3:39 to go on an unassisted goal, but Life still led 11-2 at halftime.

Katerina Gilbert scored Georgetown's 3rd and final goal midway through the fourth when the Tigers were 1-up on the field. Madison Haney got the start in goal and tallied 11 saves as Georgetown was outshot 27-6 on the day.

Georgetown heads home to Toyota Stadium next Saturday against Webber International. The opening draw is set for 11:00am.
