Tigers crush Bulldogs, move to 2-0 in AAC

After a see-saw first quarter against Tennessee Wesleyan, Georgetown turned off the afterburners and outscored the Bulldogs, 12-3, over the final 45 minutes en route to an 18-6 win, to move to 2-0 in AAC play.

Madison Diaz got the Tigers going with 2 early goals and the lead. Aubree Lair followed at the 7:32 mark for a 3-0 GC lead. Tennessee Wesleyan got 1 back 45 seconds later, but Hannah Voss had the response with 5:50 to go. Saydee Bottoms then fired a ball home on a free position shot with 5:13 to go to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead. Tennessee Wesleyan scored 2 goals to close out the quarter.

The 2nd quarter belonged to Georgetown. Aubree Lair scored twice, Madison Diaz, and Katerina Gilbert each scored once, while the defense and strong play in goal from Madison Haney kept the Bulldogs scoreless and stretched the lead to 9-3 at halftime.

The Tigers went for the knockout blow early in the 3rd as Melanie Wieland scored just 56 seconds in for a 7-goal lead. Tennessee Wesleyan fought back by scoring 3 times in a span of 1:41 to get back within 4 at 10-6 with 9:50 to go. Georgetown showed strong resolve as those goals were the last of the game for the Bulldogs. Georgetown dominated from there by scoring the last 8 goals of the game for the 18-6 win.

Katerina Gilbert scored 4 of her 5 goals in the 8-0 game-ending run. She also added 2 assists and 2 ground balls. Madison Catoggio played her role as a table-setter to perfection with 6 assists and added a goal. Madison Diaz was everywhere with 4 goals, 1 assist, 12 draw controls, 3 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers. Aubree Lair finished with a hat trick while Melanie Wieland and Hannah Voss scored twice. Saydee Bottoms finished with a goal and assist. Madison Haney turned away 12 shots in goal to pick up the win.
