After a rough start in a brutal Mid-South Conference, Georgetown proved its mettle by going on the road and dominating Freed-Hardeman on Saturday. The Tigers headed home with their 1st MSC win, 3-0 over the Lions.
Georgetown had an early go at goal, but Bekah Clark's 2nd minute effort was turned away. The Tigers stuck with it and saw the reward in the 10th minute. Co-Captain, McCall Burkhalter, found space and buried her first goal for a 1-0 Tiger lead. Freed-Hardeman turned up the intensity with multiple shots at Daysia Thompson as the half went on, but Thompson had other ideas and denied everything that came her way. Thompson tallied 3 saves in the half as Georgetown took the 1-goal edge to halftime.
Thompson made her 4th save less than 2 minutes into the 2nd half to keep GC in front. The lead doubled to 2 in the 63rd minute thanks to a strike from Mallary Bailey. Bekah Clark made it a 3-0 lead just over 3 minutes later. From there, the Tigers entrusted Thompson to finish the clean sheet. Thompson obliged with 3 more saves to finish with 7 on the night.
Georgetown picks up a much-needed win ahead of Monday's regular season finale at #1 Cumberlands. Kickoff in Williamsburg is set for 7:00pm.
