Women's Track Second at Landon Bond Invitational

BEREA, Ky. - Last weekend, the bulk of the Georgetown College women's track and field team did not compete, but on Saturday, the Tigers returned to the track with a vengeance as they put together a solid performance at the Berea College Landon Bond Invitational.

Georgetown finished second among 11 teams at the event, and they posted the top score from any NAIA team competing at the Invitational, as they racked up 99 points.

Things got off to a good start for the Tigers, with Jalynn Landversicht and Libby Miller each finishing in scoring positions in the 200-meter dash finals. Miller built on that with a second place finish in the 400-meter finals, and Myah Menfee won the 100-meter hurdles marking third and fourth scoring performances in the individual sprint disciplines. The Tigers also had both spring relay teams grab podium finishes, as the 4x100-meter team finished second, and the 4x400-meter entry crossed the line in third.

Georgetown dominated in the 800-meter run. The Tigers took the win with the performance of senior Madelyn Waltmon, and they also had Lani Irwin, Kate Reese, and Katie Milby finish in the top eight to score points for the Tigers in the event.

In the distance events, four more Tigers found the scoresheet. Manny Stovik, Riley Davis, and Alexandra Morris finished in succession in the 5,000-meter run, and Rachel Puckett placed sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

On the field, the Tigers controlled the high jump much like they had the 800-meter run on the track. Georgetown had four scoring performances in the high jump, highlighted by a 1-2 finish for Sarah Bolton and Landversicht who were joined on the scoresheet by Menfee and Amber Brown. The Tigers also scored three times in throwing events, with Bolton and Menfee notching top-8 performances in the javelin, and Kaylee Dee Long finishing seventh in the discus.

The successful meet comes on the heels of a dual-record breaking performance in the heptathlon last weekend for Bolton and Menfee. Bolton hit an NAIA B standard at the Montreat College invitational with a mark of 4,047 and Menfee finished at 3,689 - both of which eclipsed the old GC record, which had stood for nearly a decade. The previous mark was held by Bea Cameron who posted a total of 3,623 in 2014.Bolton must now wait to see if her mark - which currently ranks sixth in the NAIA this season - will hold up to be one of the top-16 marks in the NAIA in order for her to compete at the National Championship in May.

Georgetown will be back in action again on April 8-9 when they head south to take part in the University of the Cumberlands Invitational in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
