Errors haunt Tigers in loss to Shawnee

Georgetown had its most efficient offensive performance in the MSC opening win over Pikeville. The momentum couldn't be sustained as the Tigers efficiency waned in the 2nd MSC contest and resulted in a sweep at the hands of Shawnee State.

Georgetown (2-9, 1-1) came out aggressive offensively tallying double digit kills in each set of the match. 12 errors and a negative hit percentage proved to be the Tigers undoing in the opening set as Shawnee State (4-5, 1-0) took it, 25-18. Georgetown finished the match with 27 errors, to just 12 for the Bears.

The Tigers were able to settle in during the 2nd set, going toe-to-toe with the Bears throughout. The set ultimately needed extra points to settle it, but Shawnee took the 2nd set, 27-25, to go up 2-0 in the match. With that momentum, the Bears turned in their most efficient set in the 3rd. 14 kills against 1 error, with a .371 hitting percentage proved to be too much for Georgetown as Shawnee took the 3rd, 25-18, to sweep the match.

Kayla Mantell kept the ball moving with 20 assists, while Reese Speed and Alea Ohle worked the backline strong with 19 and 11 digs respectively.

Georgetown falls back to .500 in MSC play, but now goes out-of-conference on Saturday, September 10th, with a road trip to Lourdes University. The opening serve is set for noon.
