Tigers fall in 4 sets at Campbellsville

Georgetown headed to Campbellsville on Tuesday knowing the task was tall to take down the top team in the Mid-South Conference. While the fight proved to be there, Campbellsville had the upper hand in this tiger fight, taking down Georgetown in 4 sets.

Georgetown (6-18, 5-8) got off to a slow start against their tiger rivals. GC committed 10 errors in the 1st set against only 7 kills. Campbellsville (18-5, 12-2) took advantage while also hitting .370. CU took the 1st set comfortably, 25-13. As has often been the case in 2022, Georgetown used the set break to reorganize and came out firing. In set 2, the Tigers turned in one of their more efficient sets of the season. 17 kills against only 3 errors and a hit percentage of .341 were too much even for 1st place Campbellsville. While CU tried to rally late in the set, Georgetown built enough of a lead early that it could not be caught. 25-23 Georgetown took set 2 to level the match.

Set 3 saw Campbellsville return to its form from set 1. CU hit at a .417 clip in the set with only 3 errors. Georgetown hit a respectable .217 in the 3rd, but it wasn't enough as Campbellsville took the set, 25-18, to move ahead 2-1 in the match. The 4th set was tight throughout with both teams having opportunities to build leads, but the opposite side always had an answer. There were 11 ties in the 4th alone. Late in the set, Campbellsville squeaked out a lead of just a few points and Georgetown was unable to climb back. Campbellsville took the 4th, 25-22 to win the match, 3-1.

While many of the statistics proved tight, serving errors ultimately played the difference in the match. Georgetown had 12 serve errors, compared to just 5 for Campbellsville.

Georgetown wraps up the regular season with a trip to Lindsey Wilson on Thursday night. First serve is set for 7:30pm.
