Wildcats Steal Five Setter From Tigers

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Georgetown College volleyball team (2-15, 0-6 MSC) lost to Bethel University (7-10, 2-4 MSC) in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats defeated the Tigers in five sets, winning 25-21, 19-25, 25-17, 19-25, 15-12.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Tigers and Wildcats traded the first six points before the Tigers opened up a mini 6-4 advantage. The Wildcats responded with a 5-0 spurt to take their first established lead. From there, both sides played fairly even volleyball before the Wildcats won six of the last eight points to claim the opener, 25-21. 

The second set quickly set up to go back and forth. Midway through, the Tigers managed to turn a one-point lead into a 17-11 advantage with a 6-1 run. The stretch was pivotal as it caused the visitors to call a needed timeout. Georgetown took five of the final seven points the level the match at a set apiece, 25-19. 

Despite an early 3-0 lead, the Tigers let their early advantage slip out of reach. By the 10-7 mark, the Wildcats held the upper hand and did not surrender the lead from there. Trailing 16-15, the Tigers saw the third set fall out of hand. Six straight points went the Wildcats' way, who went on to win the set, 25-17. 

The Tigers controlled the fourth set from the early stages. Tied at 4-4, Georgetown made its move with a 5-0 run. Another 5-0 run later in the set solidified things, 19-13. The Tigers once again leveled the match with a 25-19 win.

Bethel jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the fifth and led 6-1. Georgetown pulled within two at 10-8, but after a Wildcats timeout, went on to win 15-12.

THE TEAM
Georgetown hit .152 as a squad, with BU earning a .153 mark. The Tigers had 49 kills and 48 assists. Georgetown collected six block assists with 10 service aces and 57 digs. 

THE PLAYERS
Constanca Rosas put up a team-high 15 kills with four digs.

Giara Ferrari added 12 kills to go with three block assists and six digs.

Faith Miller collected a season-high 23 assists and seven digs.
