Tigers 2022 campaign ends at Shawnee State

Georgetown saw its season come to an end in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament. The Tigers fell at Shawnee State for the 2nd time in 6 days, once again by a 2-1 final.

The Tigers (5-10-2) struggled to find offensive form in the 1st half, only mustering 1 shot on goal against a strong Bears defense. Shawnee State (10-7-1) found the net in the 11th minute to break an early scoreless tie. The goal was the only one of 8 shots to get by Tigers keeper, Daysia Thompson in that first half. Thompson would finish the night with 14 saves to keep the Tigers in the hunt.

Shawnee kept the pressure on in the 2nd half, ultimately earning a penalty kick in the 60th minute after a Tigers yellow card in the box. The Bears were able to convert the PK into a 2-0 lead. That margin would be short lived as Libby Miller would score her 10th of the year just 90 seconds later to bring GC within 2-1 in the 61st minute.

The offense could not muster a serious threat for the remainder of the match and Shawnee held on for the 2-1 win. The Tigers season ends in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament but does not damper a remarkable run for the 5 seniors who played in the orange and black for the final time. Abby Keeton, Lyzzi Prigmore, Jalyn Vogt, Libby Miller, and Madie Sparks all showed remarkable talent, character and intelligence during their time as Georgetown Tigers and truly showed #TigerPride.
